The Merit Company works with investors in two distinct ways. In pre-close diligence, the client is the firm. MCo operates independently to assess leadership risk in a prospective transaction. In portfolio company work, the client is the company itself, brought in through a warm introduction from the investor.
Most investors underwrite financial risk with extraordinary rigor. Leadership risk gets a fraction of that attention and it’s frequently where transactions succeed or fail after close. We conduct confidential C-suite diagnostics during active due diligence to assess the health, capability, and alignment of the target company’s leadership team: how they function, where the real gaps are, and what would need to be true on the people side for the deal to work.
Once you’ve backed a company, MCo can work directly alongside the leadership team. We suggest a warm introduction from the investor, but being engaged by the company itself as their buy-in is critical. Consider the introduction when a CEO is navigating a consequential transition, the executive team has outgrown its operating model, the investor wants a clear operating-level read on the leadership team, or the company is managing a significant transformation it doesn’t yet have the infrastructure to handle it.
